The Eterna Full-size 8X45 has a great feel with the ergonomic body armor, and being lightweight with the aluminum frame, viewing is easy. It only weighs 28oz. Compare these favorably against optics at twice the price.

Designed to Brunton's stringent Eterna specifications, the Full-Size series is designed for users who want big glass in a rugged, ergonomic mid-sized frame. This 8x Eterna binocular--a great choice for viewing over long distances--is lightweight and nimble, with a durable alloy frame that weighs a mere 28 ounces. More importantly, the Eterna delivers razor-sharp images with the help of the 45mm lenses made of BaK-4 prism glass and the trio of coating processes, including state-of-the-art phase coating, AL reflective coating, and Emerald Fire full multi-coating. Even discounting all the bells and whistles, the Eterna Full-Size is a tough customer, with an ergonomic body armor that's both waterproof and fog-proof.
Specifications range from a 315-foot field of view at 1,000 yards to a 20mm long eye relief to a 5.6mm exit pupil. In optics, it meant a fresh new approach to the stale ideas that had been in place for decades. But little did we know it would come to mean so much more. We consider this to be the best binocular in the world. The compact shares many of the features of the full size, yet offers the benefits of a smaller, more manageable binocular. Featuring SF Prism glass, 6' close focus, locking, multi-step eye relief system, locking center diopter, waterproof, nitrogen filled / fog proof, magnesium alloy frame. "A rare combination: first-rate optics in a pocket-sized package." - National Geographic Adventure. Halo¿ unlimited lifetime warranty. Sleek and durable, the 8x-power Compact exudes confidence by looks alone, with a streamlined alloy frame and ergonomic body armor. Looks are just part of the picture, however, as the binocular is also optically superior, with 21mm objective lenses made of SF prism glass, the highest-grade glass of any binocular. Building upon that kind of precision, the Compact is processed with state-of-the-art coatings--including an AL-HR reflective coating, a FlatLight full multi-coating, and an anti-fog lens coating--to make images pop and allow for true, vibrant color transmission. If size or weight dictates your binocular choice, look no further than the dynamic, pocket-sized Compact. Other details include a locking, 15mm multi-step eye relief system; a locking diopter adjustment mechanism; a waterproof, nitrogen-filled housing; a 393-foot field of view at 1,000 yards; a 6-foot close-focus range; and a 2.6mm exit pupil. The Compact measures 4.3 by 4 by 1.5 inches (W x H x D), weighs 13 ounces, and is backed by a Halo lifetime warranty (you drop or break the Compact and Brunton fixes or replaces it).
What's in the Box?
Binocular, neck strap, removable OptiVisor lens covers, leather soft case, user's manual

Buy it here now!

Brunton Epoch Full Size Binocular 10.5 X 43, Camo pattern

Epoch Full size binocular size is no coincidence that we named the Epoch for what it represents, a new era. In optics, it meant a fresh new approach to the stale ideas that had been in place for decades. But little did we know it would come to mean so much more. We consider this to be the best binocular in the world. Featuring SF Prism glass, variable speed focus, 36" close focus, locking, multi-step eye relief system, magnesium alloy frame, attachable 2X field scope to double the binoculars magnification. Full size performance in a mid size frame. Halo unlimited lifetime warranty. Contact us for Customer Service, Technical and any other question at 1-800-443-4871 (or) support@brunton.com

Recipient of a host of honors--including Target magazine's "Editor's Choice Award" and Field & Stream's "Gear of the Year" award--the Epoch Full-Size binocular ushers in a new era of optics. The camo-colored 10.5x-power Epoch Full-Size is equipped with 43mm objective lenses made of SF prism glass, the highest grade of glass available. Brunton also fitted the lenses in a magnesium alloy frame so durable that it can withstand the most rigorous tests imaginable. Perhaps the most unique development, however, is Brunton's Variable Speed Focus System, which makes all other focus wheels seem inferior. The binocular acquires targets from 30 feet out to infinity with only a minimal turn of the focus wheel, and can adjust to objects a mere 36 inches away for a close-in look. These building blocks, combined with a multitude of other innovations, have taken the Epoch Full-Size to the pinnacle of optical design and engineering. And thanks to the camo color scheme, the binoculars are great for everything from hunting to hiking.
Specifications include a locking, 17mm multi-step eye relief system that's eyeglass compatible, a 290-foot field of view at 1,000 yards, and a 4.1mm exit pupil. The list of coatings is nearly as impressive, with state-of-the-art phase coating, a FlatLight full multi-coating, an anti-fog lens coating, and an AL-HR reflective coating all contributing to the crisp resolution. And users who want a bit more bang for their back can add an X2 Epoch field scope (sold separately), which turns the Full-Size into a 17x binocular.
Additional features include a diopter adjustment mechanism that locks in so your vision is always crisp, a tripod adapter, a comfortable neck strap, and a soft leather case for carrying. The Epoch Full-Size measures 5.8 by 5 by 2 inches (W x H x D), weighs roughly 25 ounces, and is backed by a Halo lifetime warranty (you drop or break the Full-Size, and Brunton fixes or replaces it).
What's in the Box?
Epoch Full-Size binocular, tripod adapter, leather soft case and holster, neck strap, removable OptiVisor lens covers, user's manual

Buy it here now!

Brunton Eterna Compact Spotting Scope with 20-60 X 80

Eterna® compact spotting scope with a 50 mm objective lens, the Eterna Compact Spotting Scope offers excellent viewing in a discreet package. I wanted a good pair of binoculars that would get a really close focus. These Bruntons close focus to three feet. So - I ordered them from Amazon. These are handsome binoculars that appear to be extremely well made. They appear to be very durable and have nice features like a tripod mount, fast focus, etc. I already have a pair of Zeiss 8 X 32 binoculars, but wanted something with really close focus.

I tried them out. I did the mandatory adjustment to compensate for any optical differences between your eyes eyes. Then I started looking at things near and far away. Viewing objects far away they seem at first to be OK but I noticed as I looked at objects at different distances that I had to continuously change the interpupillary [sp?] distance for things to look right. When I looked at a blackbird in a tree at maybe 200 feet distance I immediately noticed a slight, but clearly noticeable, reddish line around the perimeter of the bird. Not a good sign. Also, I tried the real close-focus. Ghastly! It looked like the lenses were completely out of alignment. I also notice that the "depth of field" was very small and thus exact focus was very critical. The super fast focus mechanism [3 ft to infinity in less than a full turn of the focus wheel] works against you here as there is no room for error.

I really did not want to return these binoculars and wondered if it was just me. I sent an email to several birder friends asking them to come by and see what their impression was. As it turned out, one of them had already tested these very same binoculars with exactly the same criticisms.

My recommendation - buy Swarovskis, Leitz or Zeiss. They are superb although none will close focus to three feet. You won't find this kind of lousy optical performance with them. Remember these Brunton binoculars are not inexpensive costing almost $1400! At this price this level of optical performance is inexcusable.

I am really sorry I have to write this review. I wanted these binos to work well and at first glance they appear great, and are very nicely packaged. But when two people independent of each other come up with exactly the same criticism - well caveat emptor. Thank heavens Amazon has a return policy. On Monday - they go back!

Buy it here now!

Brunton Echo 8x45 Porro Prism Waterproof Binoculars

Echo versatility in a rugged porro prism design. I have only one real issue with them and that is the extra slop in the focus adjustment mechanism. When you focus the binoculars and happen to over adjust and need to back up or reverse direction there is an annoying amount of back lash when you reverse direction. You almost have to turn 1/8 turn before the adjustment begins to move in the opposite direction. This is pretty annoying. Other than this, the binoculars are a good value for the price.

Buy it here now!

Brunton Eterna Angled Full Size Spotting Scope with 20-60 X 80 lens

Excellent value for the money, Fluorite ED glass, for most practical circumstances this scope compares to spotting scopes costing twice as much! The first time you look through one you will become a believer just like I did. Has a wide ocular, you don't have to press your eyeball against the lens to gather an image, great if you wear glasses. Easy to precisely focus and change power.
The scope, however, is rather large and heavy. In fact, I don't think I would trust the stitched on carry strap on the padded case that is included. They are a bit pricey, but the outstanding quality of the optics is worth it. The rubberized casing is excellent for holding onto without loosing your grip. I also wear glasses and had no problem using the Brunton with my glasses because of their twist up eye relief system.

These binocs are very lightweight so no problem holding them steady. I had originally considered going with one of Canon's image stabilization binocs, but chose these instead because the quality of the glass was far superior. I do own a nice Canon DSLR, but it seems the glass in their binocs do not quite match up to quality in their camera lenses.

Buy it here now!

Brunton Eterna Compact 10 by 25 Binoculars

Small enough for your pocket but tough enough for your truck bed, the Eterna Compacts are made to pack. The Brunton Box and foam would have likely let it survive a 6 foot plus fall or whatever usually happens to manage some of my packages by the time they arrive. The scope itself has good heft to it and seems well made. It is labeled made in Japan. Comes with a very limited manual but there really isnt much to figure out on a scope anyways. Also ships with a soft neoprene case.

I took it out on the deck at around 8:15 to 8:45 PM to try it out at dusk. Very sharp image. Was able to read the small letters that tell the month of renewal on our license plates on a car from a little over a block away block away. Could see the individual links on a chain link fence a little further out and was able to get a sharp image on signs 7-8 blocks away.

20x was by far the brighest image, which was to be expected, especially based on the time of day I was out. Wheel adjusts up to 45x with 28x and 36x marked by number and the interceding 4x jumps marked by dot. My tripod isn't the greatest which even at 20x was noticeable as you really need to be able to lock in minute adjustments in order to get the image centered. Any little tweak out of alignment can make a huge difference in what is in the image and the problem gets worse as the magnification goes up.

Overall a very nice scope.

Buy it here now!

Brunton Quick attachment plate for Tripods

PROS:
Simple, it does what it should do. Nice rubber and flip-up piece on the bottom to secure camera securely.

CONS:
The only thing, after you mount it to the camera and flip the D shaped wire that's on the bottom flat so you can insert it into a tripod head, after it can be difficult to flip it back up and unscrew it from the camera if you don't have longer nails. Easy to focus. A little heavier than some others, but still very compact. Would have given them a 5 star, except for the covers. They are not very convenient to use and get in the way when the strap is attached. There is a place to snap the covers onto the strap, but they just get in the way. The strap is wider then most and very comfortable to use. The binoculars have the fully multi coating, with is a good feature. The 18mm eye relief is good, especially if wearing glasses. I am very satisfied with my purchase. Also, the price here at Amazon was way less than anyplace else.

Buy it here now!

Brunton Eterna Full-Size 11x45 Binocular

The Eterna Full-size 11X45 brings you a sharp image with the help of BaK-4 prism glass, state-of-the-art phase coating and a readiness to get the job done when it counts the most. Highly recommend it, especially to someone who is uncomfortable using binoculars.

Buy it here now!

Brunton Echo 10x50 Porro Prism Waterproof Binoculars

Echo versatility in a rugged porro prism design. In a word, they are first rate. At the price, they are a great steal. I have owned much glass -- top camera lenses (Zeiss, Leica), top binoculars (the closest to these, a Swarovski 15x56) and top telescopes --and by comparison these are excellent because a) they are hand-holdable for me, b) very sharp, c) very contrasty, d) very bright, e) relatively light weight and d) optically and mechanically solid -- all for $500, I think the price is. The eyepieces are click-stop adjustable to balance eye relief and field of view (which is satisfactory [but not really outstanding], especially in light of the power). It is hard to say whether the binocular is sharp from center to edge because, properly set up, black out is encountered if one attempts to look over to the edge, but not if one doesn't. Periphal vision apparent sharpness is excellent. The black out is not a material problem because anything one concentrates on is moved to the center of view anyway. The prisims are phase coated and the optics are fully multicoated, with excellent current technlogy. The Bruntons are nitrogen filled, waterproof, and have a pleasant and comfortable non-slip outer covering. The right eyepiece is adjustable without click stops but doesn't move from the position set. These binoculars are in the league of the comparable Zeiss and Swarovskis, but at almost a third the price and with much greater hand-holdability and a life time warranty to boot. They are more color neutral and as bright as the Swarovskis and more similar to the Zeiss, but lack a bit of the super relaxed quality of the Zeiss and at times, the Swarovskis, but not by much. You have to fuss with the Bruntons more to get a similar degree of set-up and such quality. These binoculars are much more hand-holdable and ergonomic than the the Zeiss or Swarovskis and much lighter too, but still not a feather either, weighing in about 36 oz, as my best guess (I have no scales where I am). The Bruntons have a feel of good quality, with no cheesy or loose aspects, except the Brunton name/logo on the sides (cheesy). I do not like, also, the socks covers, but others might. I think they are too tight and not protective enough. The strap is excellent, aside from having the name of the manufacturer on it -- a general, pet peve of mine. Buy them. You'll like them. When you get comfortable hand-holding higher powered binoculars, it is almost impossible to go back to lesser powered binoculars for long. 7x50s now seem quaint to me. My Nikon Venturer 8x32 XL sits on a shelf, as do most of my other binoculars now, and I have about 10 pair currently on just my sailboat.

I love these binoculars for birding, marine use and even at spectator events, including ballet and opera. Braced, with elbows on a seat's arm rests, I can hand-hold these binoculars for the duration of the event. Their color quality is very neutral and pleasing, a quality of better, current optics, generally.

Modern, computer-designed optics with quality, current coatings, at all of the various price points, are much better than what we had 10 years or more ago, and the range in quality across those price points is also substantially narrowing as time passes. Granddad's WWII field glasses, with the beat-up leather case, just don't cut it anymore.

Buy it here now!

Brunton 27 LU Compact Pin-On Mirrored Compass With Luminous Points & Sun Watch

This compass is small enough to fit in a watch pocket, yet it's easy to read and accurate, within its size limits. For a full size pair of binoculars, the size is still small enough to take along hiking, yet offers the greater optical strength, zoom, and focus! After researching different binoculars, I found these to be the best in terms of the optics, quality, and value when compared to other binoculars in this price range. Plus, the price on Amazon is incredible compared to other sites/stores...I often found the same exact product priced at $260.00-$290.00 (whereas I got mine on Amazon for ~$187)! And, you get free shipping :) I'm very pleased with my purchase!

Buy it here now!

Brunton Nomad V2 Pro Digital Compass with Barometer/Altimeter

I love this tool and used it regularly on a recent motorcycle tour of Colorado. The barometer showed local atmospheric conditions and helped us with daily route planning and it was fun to use to the altimeter and see just how high we were - over 12, 000 feet in Rocky Mountain National Park. The compass came in handy on our hikes.
This is not a difficult tool to use and the displays are easy to read. It appears to be made of the usual Brunton quality. I didn't give it five stars because of the included instructions. Finding this hard to read document riddled with typos and confusing layout included with this sophisticated instrument struck me as bizarre.
Instructions aside, this is one useful gadget.

Buy it here now!

Brunton Three-section Monopod for Binoculars and Transits

Our monopod¿s quick set-up makes it a favorite for lightweight packers who use binoculars, scopes or cameras. I did extensive reviews on many sites to find this product which is not well known or reviewed on very many consumer sites, which must account for lack of reviews here at Amazon.

It is a solid and beautiful piece of work. Nothing like the name-brand mass market items you see in typical retail stores. It is a shame that even their own Product Description provided by the company here at Amazon is not as lavish as other brands with more savvy marketing materials. At this price I can find no other binocular with these features:

Compact (though technically a mid-size binoc) with roof prism and relatively lightweight (21oz), waterproof and fogproof Nitrogen sealed construction, clear 10x optics with coated lenses, and good eye relief (15mm)for those who wear eyeglasses, and relatively wide 368 field of view.

If you have read this far you must know these are phenomenal features. And it is solid and well built; as I say, I am ordering my second pair.

Buy it here now!

Brunton Gentleman's Compass

This is obviously a very nice compass, but isn't made with precious metals. Why is it so pricey? Obviously it has a nicer housing than most of the other compasses and certinaly has the metal cover, but does that warrant being so much more? If any of you who read this know a little bit about compasses and can shed some light that'd be great. Thanks.

Buy it here now!

Brunton Nomad V2 Digital Compass

I received my Brunton Nomad V2 Digital Compass today. I bought it as a tool for determining the bearing to a mark in sailboat racing. Two key problems with this product:
1) No sight. A sight or line or set of guides is needed to get a reasonable bearing. Very strange that a DIGITAL COMPASS that even has a setting for the DECLINATION ANGLE -- HAS NO SIGHT!! Without one, you can not obtain a good bearing.
2) There are FOUR TINY BUTTONS that operate the device, namely stop/setup, mode, bearing and start. These buttons are so tiny and so close together that you must look at the device to locate the one you want to use. Some of the button functions are marked on the bevel of the device, but not all are. That means you will need to keep your instructions to find the other functions that are not marked on the device. Finally, the instructions reference these four buttons as S1, S2, S3, S4, however there are no such markings on the device.
This nearly $50 device falls short on practical use. With a few minor design changes, it could be very useful.

Buy it here now!

Brunton Echo Wide-Angle Binoculars (8 X 32)

A panoramic view from our mid-size 8x32 wide angle binocular will give you a new perspective in wildlife viewing. Get the whole picture with an amazing 492-ft field of view. Because of this wide field of view, image acquisition is faster than ever. Watch the game or find your next picnic spot with the all new ECHO wide angle binocular. Great for sporting events. 4.8"x5"x2.2", 20 oz, 4 ft Close focus, 492 ft. Field of view @ 1000 yds. Five-Year Warranty.

Offering an impressive collection of features at a nice price point, the Brunton Echo Mid-Size binocular excels at mid- to long-distance viewing. The lightweight 8x power binocular features a polymer frame that weighs a mere 20 ounces, along with ergonomic body armor that protects the frame from damage. The Echo's high-clarity 32mm objective lenses, meanwhile, are made of BaK-4 prism glass--made from a higher quality glass (barium crown) that helps produce brighter images and high edge-to-edge sharpness--and are shielded by an Emerald Fire full multi-coating. Add in Brunton's twist-up eye relief system--which is both comfortable and eyeglass compatible--and a waterproof and fog-proof housing and you have a great binocular for almost any outdoor application.
Specifications range from a 394-foot field of view at 1,000 yards to a 16mm long eye relief to a 4mm exit pupil. The focus system, meanwhile, sharpens images as close as 6 feet. Additional features include tripod/monopod compatibility, protective lens covers, and a comfortable neck strap and carrying case. The Echo Mid-Size measures 4.8 by 4.8 by 2.2 inches (WxHxD) and is backed by a five-year warranty.
What's in the Box?
Binoculars, lens covers, neck strap, carrying case, user's manual.
Specifications:

Power: 8x
Objective diameter: 32mm
Frame material: Polymer
Close focus distance: 6 feet
Exit pupil: 4mm
Eye relief: 16mm
Field of view at 1000 yards: 394 feet
Prism coating: Standard
Lens coating: Full multi
Waterproof/fogproof: Yes
Nitrogen filled: Yes
Tripod compatible: Yes
Weight: 20 ounces
Dimensions: 4.8 by 4.8 by 2.2 inches (WxHxD)

 Tech Talk
Exit Pupil--Refers to the size of the circle of light visible at the eyepiece of a binocular. The larger the exit pupil, the brighter the image. To determine the size, divide the objective lens diameter by the power (an 8x32 model has an exit pupil of 4mm).
Eye Relief--The distance a binocular can be held away from the eye and still present the full field-of-view. Extended or long eye relief reduces eyestrain and is ideal for eyeglass wearers.
Field-of-View (F.O.V.)--The side-to-side measurement of the circular viewing field or subject area, defined by the width in feet or meters of the area visible at 1000 yards or meters. A wide-angle binocular features a wide field-of-view and is better for following action. Generally, the higher the magnification, the narrower the field-of-view.

Buy it here now!

Brunton Classic Lensatic Compass

The first time I used it the little magnifying lens in the eyepiece popped out without even touching it! Luckily I found it and managed to superglue it back into place. Also, the compass seems very slow to respond to positional changes, as if over dampened or under magnetized. Although it feels very sturdy with the nice metal case, I have a plastic compass that works better. This is more of a showpiece than something I would want to be relying on when lost in the woods.

Buy it here now!

Brunton Nexus 7DNL Compass (Colors may vary)

It's a basic compass that has everything that's needed for basic/casual orienteering. It's easy to read, and the rounded base makes it easier to hold in-hand for those quick bearing checks. I really like the circle in circle orientation method...that's what makes is worth $20. That one feature significantly reduces the common-when-tired navigational error of mistaking the north end of the needle for the south. I also like the magnification on the bezel that allows one to imagine that one is orienteering to 1 degree of accuracy. When one is tired, at night, those large magnified numbers are great!

In practical use, I would like to see a few different features.

1) Rather than an ergonomic baseplate, set up I guess for holding the compass in the left hand, I'd rather have two straight sides for more convenient map use. When one has one's map folded small to hold in one hand...in say a 3" wide by 6" tall rectangle, working with just one straight side near the top of the map is inconvenient.

2) Brunton's little red orienting lines are printed on the white bezel. They are really short and far apart and hard to see when trying to line them up with map grid lines. I much prefer orienting lines that run across the bottom of the liquid filled housing. This makes for a much easier time orienting the bezel with the map accurately.

3) I think for an adventure racing compass, Brunton could get rid of the GPS estimated error circles. Those are legacy feature from the Brunton GPS compass. By the rules current in adventure racing today, GPS is illegal for race use, so those are unnecessary. They don't hurt anything, but neither do they add anything useful in my view.

A previous reviewer complained that the compass housing/capsule snapped out of the baseplate when dropped hard. I've had this happen, too. In that moment it's scary, but the thing snaps back together pretty easily. In fact this is a good feature since grit gets between the baseplate and compass housing making it difficult to turn. One can snap the housing out, wipe off the grit and snap it back together for much freer movement.

This compass is not perfect, but it is a really good compass for adventure racing and general use.

Buy it here now!

Brunton 8099 Eclipse Compass

I'm on my 3rd Eclipse. No matter how you handle them, they develop big bubbles in the face. Sure, Brunton will replace the compass, but who wants to go to the trouble of that when you can have a Silva Ranger that lasts forever? As an archaeologist who uses compasses to map archaeological sites in the field, the Brunton is useless because the orientation lines are only on the margin of the compass face and, to top it off, are horribly distorted where they cross under the magnifying lens built into the baseplate. These would be life threatening problems if one were trying to navigate the backcountry with a topo map without GPS (and batteries die sometimes!). All of this is surprising since the Brunton Pocket Transit is a time-honored classic of archaeological fieldwork. I must say that, when you only need to get a quick bearing, the circle-over-circle gimmick is really cool. Too bad this overpriced compass is a waste of time. Buy a Silva.

Buy it here now!

Brunton Eclipse Compass

I have purchased two of these compasses. One for me and one for my son. My son competes in orienteering and this is his favorite compass.

I teach orienteering for the Boy Scouts and find this to be a great compass. It settles down to a bearing very fast. The declination adjustment is easy to use and demonstrate. The shape fits my hand. The dial is in one degree increments and has a magnifier built in to make reading easy. The detachable lanyard includes an emergency whistle. There is a magnifier to make map reading easier and several useful scales are on the base.

The blue circle on the base for orienting the compass to north wore off over time so I had to touch it up with a very fine Sharpie.

It is a bit pricey but the quality is very good. Unfortunately it is too expensive as a general Scout compass.

Buy it here now!

I'm the inventory manager in a large manufacturing company, and we have hundreds of materials organized in racks up to 15 feet in height.
Every pallet and box has a label with part numbers and specifications.
I used to have to climb on a ladder to read labels and verify materials, or bring the pallet down to look at it. I tried several monoculars but none focused close enough for me to read the fine print on a label that's just 6 feet above my head.
This scope allows me to read small print on something 20 feet away, so it saves me many minutes of climbing and forklift driving. It is now one of my many tools of my job.
I recommend this scope for anyone who needs this type of capability.

Buy it here now!

Brunton Echo 10-30x21 Zoom Monocular

I am an individual who is visually impaired, and I rely on monoculars to read signs, signals, menus, cell phones, and to look at scenery. I use them at the boundaries of their functionality--difficult lighting, close focus, etc, and this one seems like a great monocular for people who want to look at distant objects with large magnification, but not some of the other things like close focus or low light conditions.

The Basics:
The monocular is the same size as a stanrard 10-power monocular. There are two dials to adjust--one is the focus and the other is the zoom mechanism. You'll notice once you hack open the plastic shield packaging that the monocular comes with a carrying case, a short (4 inches or so) strap, and a lens cleaning cloth. When you look through the monocular, the focus is relatively easy to manipulate, but it really requires 2 hands to operate this unit because the focus and the zoom are in places where the human hand cannot manipulate them without a second hand to hold the monocular steady. Also, you should be used to looking through these monoculars, as the 30x rating means that you'll need a steady hand at full magnification. I do find the unit to be visually attractive, and there is a mount for a tripod.

The Good:
Small size and lite weight makes this a great scope for birdwatching or camping. If you've got a steady hand, this will be a great buy. The image is reasonably bright, but if you want real brightness from a 30x scope, you're going to have to get something a lot larger than a 21mm objective lens--try 50 or 100mm. But that'll run you hundreds of dollars and a lot heavier. This could fit awkwardly into a shirt pocket. The image will get a little darker as you zoom it in, but the closest focus distance of about 10 feet seems to work at any magnification setting, which is nice.

The Bad:
The strap is short--usually people like to put these things around their necks, but that will not be possible with this hand-sized strap. The picture quality is great for a blind person, but if you are a picky person or somebody looking for a top-notch unit, then you won't even be reading this. Also, I will not use this for many operations because I need the real close focus of about 12 inches, and this gets only as close as 10 feet. And as I said, the focus and zoom are hard to manipulate with a single hand, so you'll need a free hand to make things easier.

Overall:
A good inezpensive buy. Nice for the car or backpack, but not for stargazing as the objective lens is too small. If you're in the market for an inexpensive, small, yet powerful monocular or binocular, I'd recommend the CARSON 20-80x25 zoom binocular. Somobody stole my pair (who steals from the blind!), but I loved those for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra when I saw Yo-Yo-Ma there in 2005. Also, find a tiny tripod to make your life easier in those situations.

Buy it here now!
